Kicking off the Holiday Season at Legoland New York

As the boys are quickly growing up, my husband and I have realized that we need to seize the moment and start taking them on more adventures before it’s too late. I had heard good things about LegoLand NY. With it being a short 3 hour drive, we decided to head up for a quick weekend getaway.

We stayed right at the Legoland Hotel and I highly recommend doing so because it’s a big part of the entire experience. Yes, you’ll pay a premium but the boys spent so much time in their little bunk room building Legos and playing with their animals. It also ended up being a great space to come back in and warm up after a few hours outside at the park. We ended up going back out for round 2 around 4 PM.

There are only about 5 rides open during the off season. A few of them are on the babyish side (as my boys would say), so if you have kids over 10, I don’t think this is the place for them. The off season is really more about celebrating the holidays and enjoying the transformation of the park to a winter wonderland.

The boys did really enjoy Lego Ninjago (the Ride) and the Lego Factory Adventure ride. We also mailed letters to Santa and got our picture taken with Lego Santa. So if you’re in the area, I would recommend this for a quick day trip or an overnight excursion for the family. I feel that anything longer, there just wouldn’t be enough to do.

Holiday Bricktacular

Bricktacular is the theme of the park over the holidays. It runs from November – December and the entire park is decorated with lights, greenery and fake snow. There were various Christmas themed shows, activities and a hot chocolate/smores bar for the kids. We also took advantage of the rides, with the biggest advantage of this time of year being that we did not wait more than a few minutes in a line!

The Room

There are a few different themed rooms at the hotel. We stayed in the Kingdom room. It was clean and as I mentioned above, it was the boys favorite part about the trip. They loved that they had their own little bunk nook with a TV and a play area full of Lego’s! My husband and I were even able to watch a movie during the evening, while the boys played in their little area before bed..

Dining

The food was decent, but limited. There is only one restaurant open during the off season. So be prepared to eat the same things if you stay more than 1 day. However, the boys really enjoyed walking around the restaurant because it is like a life-size little Lego museum!

The breakfast is complimentary with an overnight stay, or at least it was with our package. There is also a Skyline bar near the kids indoor play area, so you can enjoy a cocktail and some appetizers or entrees while the kids play.

Would We Go Back?

I don’t think we will go back during the off season for Bricktacular. While we really enjoyed our experience kicking off the holidays, there just weren’t enough big kid rides open for my 6 and 8 YO to justify another winter trip up here. For our family, it was a one and done trip, and we’re okay with that because we enjoyed our time together and have some great memories from this trip!

However, the boys did ask if we could come back during the summer, when all of the rides are open. There was a big portion of the park that we didn’t get to see. So yes, 100% I would like to travel back to LegoLand to take advantage of everything the park has to offer!
