Whenever I’m home for long stretches of time, I can’t help but start noticing little things I want to tweak or improve. (This time, it’s our master bedroom.) It’s just how my creative brain works. I’m always imagining how to make a space feel more functional, more beautiful, or just more us.
Over the years I’ve realized that designing a home is never really “done.” It’s a slow layering process, full of small upgrades and thoughtful swaps that eventually tell your story. While it’s tempting to buy everything in one swoop from a perfectly staged showroom, creating a home that feels personal takes time — and honestly, that’s part of the fun.

We purchased a new construction home for the ease of not having to worry about repairs, but with that came very vanilla (or lack there of) design choices.
One of the first things our master bedroom needed was furniture. It instantly created comfort in the space. I wanted to work with our existing furniture because it was all in really good shape. We did purchase the chairs at the foot of the bed because I felt like there was too much open space without them. A local closet company, The Closet Company, installed our custom cabinets. I definitely recommend them if you’re in the New Jersey area!
Neutral bedding feels clean and luxurious to me. I wanted to feel like I’m staying in a high end hotel in this bedroom so I invested in quality sheets, pillows and a duvet set. We also recently added wainscoting, and I love the look so much!
The yellow hued paint was just not working for me in this space. I wanted something soft and airy for a more romantic feel. I ended up choosing Benjamin Moore’s Paper White. It’s a really subtle grey with warm undertones.
I love this light fixture for our room. It’s minimal but, timeless and adds the perfect amount of lighting when we need it. This one from Amazon is a look-a-like for less!
Lamps are also a great addition to a master bedroom. The soft lighting is perfect to create a relaxing atmosphere. I am loving these beautiful ombre grey ones!
I found this rug maybe a year ago. I felt like the chairs didn’t do enough to define the open space at the edge of our bed so I waited until I found the perfect rug at the right price. This one is a fantastic price, especially if you only need a 4 or 5′ size.
Curtains will create texture and softness in any space. It was actually one of the last things I bought because it took me a while to find the perfect color and texture combination. Don’t rush into buying something you’re unsure of. This mauve color brought such a pretty energy to the room.
I love having photos of my family on the walls. These picture frames come in so many sizes, so it’s easy to mix and match to get that perfect wall layout. These are the exact picture frames, love them so much!
CREAM VASE | TRAY | TRAY OPTION TWO | CHANEL BOOK | CANDLE | GOLD FRAME | STEMS
I really enjoy the little details around the room. They bring such peace and calm. Candles and florals are a must-have. I layer them on books and trays to create dimension throughout the area.
This little refresh in our master bedroom reminded me how even small changes can make such a big impact. A fresh coat of paint, new lighting, or the right rug can completely shift the mood of a space — and it doesn’t all have to happen overnight. If you’ve been craving a change in your own home, start with one corner or one piece that makes you smile. Those small updates add up to something really special over time.
xx,
Kim
